I believe you are, in fact, seeing the effects of a hijackware infection AND a W32/Alureon-rootkit infection.įurthermore, there's a very strong possibility that the computer was infected while SAV was still installed, which would mean that Avast did NOT install properly and therefore has never worked properly. I tried both solutions in this KB but without success, even after a reboot. The following seemed to work for many thread participants, and refers to a Microsoft Knowledgebase article: Plus, it didn't seem to work for many thread participants. So I decided to forgo this one in favour of a more recent thread about update agents. The following blames it on the Windows update agent, but the thread is somewhat old (2007). The apps are Avast AV, Spybot S&D, and MalwareBytes. I have three antimalware apps installed, updating and scanning every night. The following indicates that it might be malware, but likelihood is very small in my case. I also have not noticed any error code specification, though I'm not sure where or when such a code would be specified. I have XP Professional SP3, and haven't repaired or installedįrom the installation CD.

I surfed the web and found this to be a common problem.

I turns out that all of them were not installed. I tried to update windows and got the message that "Some updates were not installed".
